The Truth about Relational Cords
By Shelli Stanger Nelson
The purpose of this article is to provide an oh-so brief introduction to the complexities of energetic cords and dispel a few myths surrounding their value. My education in and experience as an advanced-practice professional bio-energy practitioner and instructor has informed my opinion about the nature and methods of effectively modifying unhelpful cording.
Bio-plasmic streamers-the energy we send out from our chakras and bio-energy field, arise spontaneously. In the case of human relationship, the streamers can originate from any chakra, but are predominant in the emotional chakras, namely those chakras in the front of the body-chakras 2, 3, 4 and 5. We connect energetic streamers of bio-plasma through each and every encounter with a person, an animal, living plant, and many times, to places. There is a correlate to the duration of the relationship and the strength of the energy streamer. As the duration of the relationship lengthens, the streamer matures from a temporary bio-plasmic streamer to a relational cord.
There are two distinguishing differences between bio-plasmic streamers and relational cords.
1. Relational cords have multiple levels corresponding to the various levels of the bio-energy field whereas bio-plasmic streamers are devoid of this complex structuring system.
2. A bio-plasmic streamer may be easily dissolved, removed, or otherwise eradicated from the chakra in comparison to relational cording which remains present indefinitely in nearly all situations, despite the quality of the relationship.
At our first and most mundane encounter with another person, say even the bank teller, each party sends out bio-plasmic streamers. It’s our way of “feeling out the person”. Of course, we don’t want to remain energetically connected to every person, place or animal we encounter, so these thin and simple streamers are easily dissolved, and ought to be removed. The majority of the time this is an automatic process, like the ability to breathe in and out; we don’t have to think about it. Occasionally someone or something clings to us in a way that is unpleasant. In these cases we may have to employ a little more conscious effort to disengage. We all know this feeling-like someone left some junk in our personal space.
The problematic issue I’ve encountered is that people tend to want to “cut” or “disconnect” not only these temporary streamers but also the complex relational cords in an effort to restore emotional stability after relationship loss. Sorry, this is not only ineffectual, but can lead to other energetic and emotional, physical and spiritual discord (no pun intended).
What we want to do is to recover emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, especially when the relationship has been toxic or otherwise unhelpful. To do this we need to do two things:
1. We need to submit ourselves to the inner-process work surrounding the relationship and,
2. In order to make the process journey have lasting effect, we need to heal the un-useful elements of the relationship and establish what one might call a “new contract” with the tethered individual. What this implies is a “cord healing” rather than a “cord cutting”. A relational cord healing from a well-qualified practitioner who is familiar with the complex structures of a relational cord is best suited for this task.
People tend to have a lack of understanding about the essential nature of all relational cords. Each relational cord actually contributes to the formation of the human chakra system, and are as much a part of who we are as our blood type or hair color. While we can’t change our blood type, we are able to alter the appearance of our hair color to one that we find to be more appealing. The same holds true for the relational cords; we can alter the various aspects of the relationship we found to be un-useful and intolerant, but we cannot change the fact that the relationship actually occurred and held influence in our lives.
The other issue is that most people don’t realize we have several types of relational cords, each based on different purposes and type of relationship. For example, we have energy cords which bind us to our ancestors. Again, we cannot change the fact that our lineage is what it is, but we can heal and also strengthen the ties that bind us to our family lineage.
One of the most misunderstood and under-appreciated energy cords are what Rukha calls, “Personal Cords”. These are cords that arise from our own self-talk and self-comprehension and are born of our original relational cords to first mother, then father, other family members, our spouses, partners, and other people with whom we have had significant interactions.
It’s short-sighted and naïve to think we can erase the relationships we’ve had. Our mothers are our mothers, our partners (past and present) have impacted and shaped our identity in one way or another and are always a part of us. Instead of cutting or trying to obliterate the connections we’ve made, what we really need to do is to resolve the contract of the relationship. The contracts we hold in relationship are always based on some portion of agreement, even if that agreement is unconscious; “so long as you act that way, I’m going to be this way”.
If we are busy pulling, cutting and tearing the very relational cord which is a foundational root of our personal cords, we are sabotaging our own advancing consciousness.
There is a lot to learn and understand about these complex and essential bio-energetic communication airwaves. Cord work is an advanced skill and should be handled by those people who have dedicated some serious study to the topic. So do yourself a favor and the next time you feel tempted to erase someone from your life, consult with a practitioner who can really help you reach authentic healing in its fullest sense.
